CCT Acceleration
For PGDIT working LTFT but wishing to progress faster than time based training.
The process for CCT acceleration must be pre-authorised BEFORE and then approved at your ARCP and can no longer be done by panel on the day by way of an ARCP checklist comment (although do still please make a comment that CCT acceleration application has been made in the free text box).
The pathway:
1. Discussed with your Clinical Supervisor and Educational Supervisor.
2. Ensure you have completed START/PDS (CCT before April 2028, after this it will be PEAC).
3. Make contact with the TPD (ideally Dr Lucy Green, Dr Sarah Ellis, Dr Julia Uffindell, Dr Matt Cawsey, Dr Trishul Kothari, or or Dr Matt Harvey for GRID/SPIN).
4. Ensure CSAC support for GRID.
5. The TPDs will provide you with the CCT acceleration form.
6. Forms are received centrally in West Midlands for all schools.
7. Paediatric applications are filtered and sent to Dr Lucy Green.
8. Applications are reviewed in the CCT panel prior to ARCPs.
9. The panel with make a recommendation into the ARCPs.
10. The ARCP panels make a recommendation to the APD.
11. The APD with review and either approve or not.
A few rules/considerations
-
You can ask for acceleration of CCT as paediatric training is competency based HOWEVER LTFT is NOT the same as working full-time.
-
CCT acceleration will only be made at penultimate ARCP (not final).
-
CCT date change requests MUST be in line with program changeover dates
-
You can only accelerate for a maximum of 12 months whole-time equivalent.
-
Have clear and documented ES agreement that you are exceeding expected competencies (competency based training) – documented within a Kaizen form (supervision / adhoc meeting).
-
Have clear and documented CSAC agreement (if GRID) – documented (CSAC progression form or email)If CCT is accelerated, then any time lost to training CAN NOT be regained and if at Final ARCP the panel feel training has not been completed then an OUTCOME 3 will be awarded.
-
If not accelerated at penultimate ARCP then no further ‘adhoc’ ARCPs can be added. Any questions please do ask.
