CCT Acceleration

Are you aiming / planning / working towards a CCT in Feb 2025 /July 2025 and your July 2024 ARCP is therefore your penultimate ARCP?

Are you a PGDIT working at 80% LTFT but wishing to progress faster than time based training?

Please note that as per RCPCH guidance LTFT is not the same as working 100% but be reassured that paediatric training remains competency based.

The RCPCH is very clear that 80% is different from 100% and for the vast majority any acceleration will be made at penultimate ARCP with one adjustment rather than annual changes.

The process for CCT acceleration must now be pre-authorised BEFORE and then approved at your ARCP and can no longer be done by panel on the day by way of an ARCP checklist comment (although do still please make a comment that CCT acceleration application has been made in the free text box).

There is a new EMids/Wmids NHSE form that needs completing to log your request. Please note this form is generic and not School of Paediatrics specific. You can find a link to this form at the top of this webpage. As well as completing the form please send an email with “CCT ACCELERATION (your name)” in the subject field to Dr Ellis (TPD assessments) (sarah.ellis@uhcw.nhs.uk) so she can confirm receipt of request and check Microsoft form is received.

Please note that both the Microsoft form AND email must be received BEFORE consideration at a CCT acceleration panel before this summer’s ARCPs.

The panel (w/c 3nd June) will then provide a recommendation to the ARCP panel who will in turn make a recommendation to the dean (or his representative) for acceleration approval.

A few rules/considerations
  1. You can ask for acceleration of CCT as paediatric training is competency based HOWEVER LTFT is NOT the same as working fulltime.

  2. CCT acceleration will only be made at penultimate ARCP (not Final).

  3. CCT date change requests MUST be in line with program changeover dates

  4. Have clear and documented ES agreement that you are exceeding expected competencies (competency based training) – documented within a Kaizen form (supervision / adhoc meeting).

  5. Have clear and documented CSAC agreement (if GRID) – documented (CSAC progression form or email)If CCT is accelerated, then any time lost to training CAN NOT be regained and if at Final ARCP the panel feel training has not been completed then an OUTCOME 3 will be awarded.

  6. If not accelerated at penultimate ARCP then no further ‘adhoc’ ARCPs can be added.Any questions please do ask.
