SUDIC Course

(Simulation training to Understand the paediatrician’s Duties, Investigation and Care of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy and Childhood)

This is a one day course for senior paediatric trainees (ST4-8) and Consultants. However, if there is space available, then places can be allocated to junior trainees (ST3).​ The aim of this SUDIC course is to give practical experience and training about management of SUDI/C through high fidelity simulation and experiential learning.

The SUDIC SIM Course offers:

​

  • A full day of immersive, high fidelity simulation of a SUDIC case

​

  • Highly interactive small group, experiential learning

​

  • Opportunity to practice and manage the key processes involved in SUDIC investigation:​

    • Unsuccessful resuscitation

    • Difficult communication with acutely bereaved parents and professionals

    • Post mortem examination and investigations

    • Interagency history taking,  home visit and professionals meetings

    • Report writing

    • Confidential safe environment to learn

​​

  • Diverse supportive faculty experienced in SUDIC investigations and simulation:

    • Paediatric Pathologist

    • Senior Detective Police officers experienced in child death investigations

    • Consultant Paediatricians with expertise in SUDIC and safeguarding.

    • Simulation faculty SIM Ward New Cross

  • Course mapped to level 3 generic, paediatric and community competencies

​​
